What the two numbers mean
A reading like 120/80 mmHg has two parts. The top number, systolic pressure, measures the force in your arteries when your heart beats.
- Sit quietly for five minutes before measuring
- Feet flat on the floor, back supported
- Take two readings, one minute apart
